My name is Sarah Muddle and I am a qualified teacher who has worked in education for over 30 years.
My degree is in English but I have taught across a range of subjects and across a range of year groups, from Year 5 to college students. For much of that time I worked in mainstream schools in Kent but I began to feel concerned for the difficulties that faced children and young people with SEN, so nine years ago I began to work in special schools. I have held senior leadership positions in two special schools and also worked at college to support older students with autism and other special needs. During that time I have worked closely with children and parents to support them and help them find a way through the difficult EHCP and review process. It was hard to offer full support at a distance for those parents and children who were experiencing real anxiety about going to school, or for those who had not yet secured a school place so I set up Applegate Tuition.
I am trained in safeguarding and have a fully up to date DBS which parents will be invited to check on our first meeting. I am also a driver and am insured to take children or young people out for prearranged trips if they feel they would like to.
I love visiting places with children and young people, particularly if it is a special interest they have and I can learn something about it too, but I also really enjoy just spending time with a young person, finding out about them and helping them learn and feel confident.
I live in Faversham with my husband, our two dogs and three very unfriendly chickens!
